Winner of a NJHMFA-sponsored design competition, LWDMR has designed a permanent supportive housing facility funded under HUD's Supportive Housing Program.
Named, A “Better Life”, the facility will house 20 hard-to-reach homeless persons with severe mental illness and other debilitating behavioral conditions. Incorporating more than shelter, the first floor Engagement Center will provide low-demand social and medical services, as well as other essential supportive services to eligible non-residents on a drop-in basis.
The project includes other facilities such as a commercial kitchen, dining hall, library, quiet room, and community meeting room. The carefully landscaped site incorporates resident allotment gardens.
